Immigration Habeas and Appeals
While I did not initially plan on practicing immigration law, it is a moral imperative today than anyone who can help immigrants in the United States do so. My appellate skill set has made me well suited to helping immigration attorneys handle federal litigation for their clients.
My immigration practice focuses on federal litigation connected to defending immigrants in removal proceedings. I partner with immigration attorneys who handle cases in immigration court, and perform the federal aspects of their cases.
Immigration attorneys often have very busy schedules and are used to practicing in the unusual arena of immigration court. Because my practice is primarily federal, I add valuable expertise when immigration clients find themselves in federal court.
In practical terms, this is primarily in the form of habeas petitions for detained immigrants. I also handle circuit appeals of denials of asylum, withholding, and removal deferral cases. In all cases I seek to work closely with immigration counsel while being mindful of their limited time.
Recent wins include several successful grants of release from York County Detention Center of clients held on 1231 detainers.
